I did the Bonita Canyon falls and found it completely covered in graffiti....even the trail was covered in graffiti...the mountain hikes in San Gabriels are downright depressing ...we have to pay for parking so we can enjoy the smog from the top of these big mounds of dirt and come back to the trailhead and find our cars broken into by illegal aliens and druggies? I have yet to see a single waterfall hike in LA that doesnt have graffiti....Southern California is not a hiker's paradise, but a hiker's nightmare.....

Good book with solid info on great hikes. I just moved to SD so looking to take full advantage of this book. So far I've skimmed through it and there are lots of options for a wide range of hikers.

Thought there would be better illustrations and maps. Didn't care for this guide

It's a good book but know that most of the 34;hikes34; on here are those with less than 1000 feet of elevation gain and not as challenging as you would hope. Personally I would not purchase a book to tell me about a hike a couple of hours away with 200-400 feet of elevation gain....I would not think that would be worth mentioning in a book about hiking trails. With that said, it is still a good book and provides useful information once you find a suitable hike on the list.

I haven't had a chance to use it yet; as soon as the beginning of the year is here I will go out and try some of the hikes.
