This is a beefy replacement part Chuck for JY33 tapered applications. Heated up the chuck with a torch and then slowly pressed onto the taper. Then using a block of wood and a dead blow, gave it a few whacks. Let it cool.Has so far stayed on the drill press. Seriously nice quality chuck. Comes with new Key as well.

For years I put up with a keyless chuck. In that time, I've never had a drill bit turning that didn't slip. NOW the drill bits are secure. Someone educate me with a hammer for why I waited so long.Installation was quite simple with the precision of the taper mount. Don't be anxious when seating the chuck in place. Retract the jaws, place a piece of hardwood over the end of the chuck (jaws fully retracted!!), and tap the piece of hardwood to seat the chuck.Love the stability and accuracy of this chuck. Your drill bits will love it. No more scabby drill bits. They will no longer slip.

This chuck is a lot larger than the original one on my drill press, which is also 1/2" max capacity. Much more rigid. The body diameter is 36.7mm vs. 31mm; the tightening nut is 52.4mm vs. 42.2mm. Very importantly, this nut is a single piece of heavy duty steel with the rack teeth for tightening machined directly in it, unlike many low end chucks that use a sheet metal sleeve and a ring rack. There is very little play between the nut and the chuck jaws, and zero axial play in the nut. The jaws operate smoothly with little play radially. The nut and body outside surfaces have a smooth ground finish that contributes to the quality of the chuckHave not measured the runout yet, will update after measurement.Update 18 Sept. 2023: runout is unacceptable, 0.012" (12 mils). This is measured right at the chuck jaws, with a gage pin held in the chuck. Two inches away from the jaws the runout is worse. Very visible with the naked eye with a drill held in the chuck.Took off three stars due to the runout. Will take some measures to bring runout to a usable level otherwise this is a paperweight.

For less than $20 this thing can't be beat.I half-expected it to be made of pot metal and disintegrate the second I pressed it onto my press's spindle, but after a bit of brake cleaner to get the oil out of the taper it stuck on really well and hasn't come loose after 48 2" holes in 4" PVC pipe, despite the hole saw jamming up several times. There's a tiny bit of runout but it runs perfectly true once the bit hits the material at all. The mechanism is smooth, and the materials seem solid. The chuck key is significantly more stout than the one that came with the original chuck, but doesn't have the spring-loaded pin to push it out. (I don't really care for the spring-loaded keys, but maybe someone will find that useful.)

Replaced an old Jacobs Chuck on a Rockwell drill press. I wasn’t sure if I was getting a quality piece or utter junk. Turned out it was quality stuff. This was a hard to match piece and perfectly worked to restore this incredibly old heavy duty drill press.

Works fine, good value. Isn’t 100 true, slight wobble but straightens out under load once bit contacts surface to drill.
