When cycling a tank, usually you're looking for the presence of ammonia/nitrite/nitrate, not an exact number, so sometimes a set of strips can be useful. BUT in the end you will want to know everything about your water, so why waste money on strips if you can just get this in the first place. Plus this will last for a looong time.

I use this to keep my water parameters in check and it's helped me figure out why shrimp are not doing well. Thanks API you are a shrimp life saver.

The parameters match up with what the person at the fish store who tested my water said they are I had him test my tap water and 5 tanks before I tested with this test kit and it seems pretty accurate just takes a minute to learn to match the colors of the water to the color on the paper which is something I already struggled with when I used the strips for some reason and I dont think the strips I had are as accurate anyway the ph on the strips were way off so I think this test is more worth it also theyre relatively easy to use as long as you dont lose count of how many drops youre dropping into each container

My fisher were dying and I couldn’t tell why, I medicated them and did water changes. Almost anything I could think off besides a water test. I tested my water levels and my ammonia was way to high. It helped me so much to figure out what was wrong, highly recommend

SO glad this comes in a new little handy carry case that snaps shut. It is SO improved from the old case with the dumb plastic lid that never stayed on. That alone makes this fabulous.But of course, the product itself is the best there is: API is the bees knees.I mean, if you're in the hobby, you know this rocks. If you're not: this rocks. Buy it.

Lots of tests can be completed, especially if you just use 2.5ml and half the drops of the ammonia and nitrate tests.This kit has made it possible to test every day and track via a free aquarium app, I use fishnote. I have an established tank and I'm cycling a new 55g. This kit is exactly what I needed. Will purchase again once I exhaust this one.

Test strips, they're fast, they're easy... oh and they are inconsistent and often inaccurate. That's right, those little dips and swirls... I've tested almost everyone out there, and they throw tons of false reads which could be lethal to your fish and other aquatic inhabitants. So ditch the strips and use this. The API Water Test Kit is some how still the gold standard for freshwater testing. Why? Because it is accurate, affordable, and not that hard to use. Sure it's harder than a strip, but as stated above, those don't actually work. So if you love your aquarium pet, do them a solid and invest in one of these... it can save you a lot of heart ache from inaccurate testing in the future.
