Mission: Ace in the city is a christian community development organization that is focused on building relationships with at-risk inner-city youth through mentoring, organized programs and activities (including basketball).

Programs: Ace|abroad coordinates and leads mission trips to hogar de ninos emmanuel (emmanuel children's home) in juarez, chihuahua, mexico. The purpose of these trips is to create cross-cultural opportunities for our community to engage and serve through physical projects, after-school programming and kids' clubs. During the 2016/2017 fiscal year, over 60 individuals from our community participated in a service trip, with over 80 students and 30 staff impacted at the children's home.

ace|readers is our literacy program for students k - 5th grade. This program meets weekly, on monday and wednesday evenings, at both the folwell school and powderhorn park community center plus two summer literacy camps to explore reading and fun at the local public library. An average of 60 students attend the weekly literacy program, and 94 students attended the summer literacy camps. Ace | readers is built on literacy foundations read-a-louds, vocabulary and reading comprehension. Ace | readers also is home to our mobile library which distributes books through the home for our young students. Each week, we provide meals or snacks to all the students who attend our program, providing over 2,109 meals and snacks throughout the year.

ace|middle school is our after-school program serving students in 5th thorugh 8th grade. This program is hosted twice a week, once on thursday afternoons at folwell school and again friday nights at the ace house. This program fosters a safe space where teens can be themselves, providing academic accountability and exploring rich conversations about life, school, family and relationships. An average of 22 students attend weekly, and 9 students attended the first annual summer retreat. Snacks and meals are also provided for our middle school students, with over 390 meals and snacks provided during the course of the fiscal year.

other programs include: ace|juntos works alongside our parents and families and supports them through engagement and advocacy. This happens through community gatherings and events, home visits and weekly phone calls, as well as referrals to other neighborhood resources. Over 310 powderhorn community members attended our holiday parties, summer grillouts and back-to-school events. Over 520 meals were provided. Ace|deeper provides the opportunity for youth inquiring about god to meet on a bi-weekly basis to engage in faith-related questions and seek answers to these questions. The small-group format lends itself to fostering real conversations and real relationships. The purpose of deeper is to equip our youth with the understanding and tools necessary for spiritual formation.
