Tested strippers on 18 AWG. Set dial to 18 AWG, used a scrap piece of 18 AWG wire. Blades of stripper cut slightly into the conductor resulting in at least two broken strands. Would not recommend.

This is a very handy little tool! We work with 36 gauge wire on various O-gauge and Lego lighting projects and the tiny wires are very difficult to strip. I researched in forums and no one had a good way of stripping small wires. It arrived last night and we immediately got to work. If you find it is also cutting the wire, just dial it back a bit. Be sure to squeeze and pull at the same time. The plastic quality seems very durable as well.

I've been working with 28 AWG wire, and this tool has made stripping it a joy. The stripped ends come out beautifully, and I have yet to experience a misfire. I've also tried this with 20 AWG wire, and it worked well there too, though I still prefer traditional strippers for thicker wire. If you even occasionally work with fine wire, give this tool a try.

Works great, but takes a bit of skill. You can't just dial it in and go, you have to develop a feel for it. That's the best way I can describe it. It takes a light touch to keep from cutting the conductors, but, then again, you're working with very small gauge wire. One star deducted for the price - it's too high. I guess they have us over a barrel, as there aren't a lot of wire strippers for working with tiny wires.

I assemble about 750 harnesses a year for my job, and I wouldn't bother with the work unless I have one these. Extremely useful for making large quantities. Will keep purchasing.
