I thought I researched the correct knobs for these solid shaft pots but I still had to make holes larger to fit.

I used these to rebuild the harness on my Gretsch 5420, and I used linear on the master vol as most do. If you can't find solid shaft, splined will work the same with the original knobs as long the length is the same. These are the better CTS pots to get. I did have to ream the holes in the guitar out just a tad but that's to be expected and no big deal if you go slow and tipple check everything along the way. Take your time and use a sharp reamer (or sand paper) and you'll have nothing to worry about, it's easy. These also fit the original knobs great. You can't tell any difference looking at it, but it does work better and I like the feel of CTS pots much more.

If you’re purchasing these to upgrade your guitar electronics as I was, this may not be for you. As it will be very hard to find guitar knobs that will fit on to the pots. Other than that they turn very smoothly, they work as described, and add a whole bunch of tone and volume to my guitar!!!! I wired these for a telecaster, they usually come with 250 pots. Don’t think I’m ever going to go back. I believe it gives you extra time control when you’re plugging into paddles with pre-existing tone controls. Definitely gives you more options when creating your own sound. That being said I would not buy again, only due to the fact that I could not find any guitar knobs....
