Mission: To improve the lives of animals and people by providing resources, care, and protection.

Results: In FY2019:
•AWLA helped a total of 2,322 animals find homes (1,463 cats, 648 dogs and 211 smallcompanion animals) – a new record and 50% increase over FY18.
•AWLA’s vet team performed 1,596 spay and neuter surgeries, contributing to thereduction of pet overpopulation in the DC Metropolitan Area.
•AWLA rescued 1,679 animals from shelters across the state, region, and country(including survivors of natural disasters, as well as dog meat farms in South Korea), therefore promoting animal welfare and creating partnerships in the humanecommunity well beyond Arlington County.
•AWLA reduced the average number of days animals spent at the shelter:oDog stays decreased from 18 days to 14 days. oCat stays decreased from 22 days to 12 days. oSmall Companion Animal stays decreased from 44 days to 25 days.

Target demographics: homeless, neglected and abused animals

Direct beneficiaries per year: 2,322 animals find loving homes, 301 animals in our community receive low-cost spay/neuter surgery, 234 animals reunite with their families, and so much more.

Geographic areas served: Arlington, Virginia and the Northern Virginia and DC Metropolitan areas

Programs: basic sheltering, food, and medical care, as well as low-cost spay/neuter vouchers, emergency veterinary assistance, well-pet check-ups, low-cost rabies vaccine and microchip clinics, safekeeping, and humane education.
