Excellent, less expensive, better and more precise than test strips to test phosphate in clear or salt type pool water

I was surprised my API master aquarium test didn't come with this test. So, I had to order this separately. Phosphate is one of the important macro nutrients for live plants. I realized my tank had 0 phosphate (phosphorous) in it after getting this test. Now I make sure I have some nitrates and some phosphates in my water for my plants. I have to supplement the phosphorous, but not the nitrogen as I get enough of that from fish waste.Another added bonus. I used to battle green spot algae. That tough algae on the glass that would take 20 minutes of scrubbing with a pad to remove. I read that if you keep your nitrate to phosphate ratio at 10:1 it makes it hard for GSA to grow. Sure enough.... I now regularly test and adjust as needed to keep my ratio at 10:1 Usually I have about 10-15ppm nitrates and 1-1.5 phosphates(after adding phosphorous). After a good cleaning my GSA has never returned. So, this test is critical for me and I perform it weekly.

Good product, easy to use, good packaging, seems to perform as stated, but it's not meant for swimming pools, at least not pools that use salt. The "salt water" in a salt pool is not the same as the "salt water" in a salt aquarium. Maybe I didn't read the description well enough, but this is definitely intended for testing aquarium water. Pool stores seem to be pushing phosphate neutralizers these days for some reason. The store where I shop sold me $75 bottle of something to treat high phosphate levels in my pool water. After doing some research I decided they sold me something I didn't need, but I couldn't be sure because I didn't have a way to test phosphate levels myself. This was the closest thing I could find, but it's not comparable to the test kits the pool stores use.

I have a few API test kits and I get consistent results. Color charts are protected an instructions easy to follow. While you can cut the English instructions out on this test kit, it seems API could find a better way to do this across the board in their kits.

Think you have phosphates in your tap or aquarium water? This test will tell you. As usual with any test kit made by API, this test is fast and highly accurate. API makes great kits and this one is no exception. Works flawlessly.

I used to use a more expensive phosphate testing kit from a science education catalog. I found this and decided I could try it out for over a 1/4 of the cost. I had to adapt it to meet the needs of a Middle School Science classroom, but it worked great. I found the tests to be pretty accurate, but it wasn't the most reliable method to test for phosphates around our school. I will continue to use them however, because of the ease of use and the cost.

I have used the API test kits for years and am very happy with the results. More accurate that the test strips.

You must have one of these. Phosphate levels affect both plants and fish, and this doesn't add a minute to your weekly routine.

I have been in the hobby for decades and find API a quality test kit. I really like the ease of use and the quick directions on the back of the color chart with a more detailed instructions included. Check out their other water test kits like the nitrate and nitrite, these with the pH are must have's.

Very easy to use test. Very easy to read chart. Clear and easy to understand instructions. Called the water company to get their phosphate levels, checked my tap, got an accurate result. Now I can maintain my water properties for my planted tank with confidence.

I have a few planted aquariums around my house, 2 low tech, and 1 high tech all decked out with everything you could imagine. I mix my own fertilizers for the high tech tank and dose for a specific amount on a daily basis. I ordered another companies phosphate test kit, while it was very accurate it was a little cumbersome to use compared to API's version. The API version of the kit comes with a glass tube much like their other kits which I prefer over the tray method I used in the other brand kit. The API kit appears to be just as accurate as the other brand in my comparisons and makes testing for phosphates a little less time consuming. The color chart that is included is a little difficult to read, the lower levels are very similar in color, but I have come to notice the subtle differences over time.

Easy, perhaps the only thing i've noticed is that is not as accurate as I would like. If making two tests simmultaneously, sometimes the results very a little. A little in a test for my aquarium is the difference between having algae nightmares or not. I think this test is only a reference. As other aquarist say, if you have algae, you DO have phosphates. Don't trust the test and use something to low down them.

Very happy with the API FW/SW PHOSPHATE TEST KIT. It is so important to test for phosphates to head off algae issues. The kit arrived on time and works well.

Seems to work fine. When levels are up a bit, I use PhosBan. Julian Sprung's formula. That also works well.

I ordered this Phoshate test product some months ago - Actually, you might like to know that this thing is made for little tropical fish tanks. I use the word, "little" fish tanks - as compared to a "swimming pools".For some reason, this stuff can't be found in 'Pool Supply' stores in most of So. Florida - so, I'll try the fish tank stuff - mind you, this is only a 'test' kit, not a remedy. If you find phosphate in your pool water, then you're going to have to buy some pretty expensive pool stuff to remedy the problem. In the past year Phosphate seem to have become a problem in residential swimming pools in our area. I hope I'm not starting something here - fish tank stuff is largely reasonable in price compaired to swimming pool supplies. If the producer of this stuff discovers the swimming pool market I fear what will happen to the price of his kits - get the picture?.I hope that the Phosphate problem in pools is not [also] connected to Globle Warming. I'll have to work extra hard to try and make the connection on that one.

This test kit gave me the same results as the pool store's test. Therefore, I would say it's excellent.
