Mission: Aac operates an arts center in arlington, virginia - maintaining a program of exhibitions of new work by contemporary artists, providing subsidized artist studio spaces, and offering a program of educational classes and activities for children and adults - with the goal of encouraging and supporting artists and appreciation of the arts.

Programs: The aac serves hundreds of students each year through classes and workshops taught by professional artists year-round. These classes serve both adults and children, and new classes are offered each season including spring break camp and summer camp for children. Aac also offers individual workshops and after-school enrichment programs at several area public schools. Rental space is available for community celebrations and events.

aac presents highly-respected exhibitions featuring work by emerging and established contemporary artists primarily from the mid-atlantic region. Exhibitions in nine galleries rotate quarterly and are free to the public. Spring and fall solos exhibitions feature seven artists selected by professional staff and outside jurors. Thematic exhibitions featuring multiple contemporary artists alternate with solos exhibitions.

aac's unique resident artist program provides subsidized studio space for twelve area artists selected through a competitive process. Aac offers ten working studios, designed to allow artists to focus upon and produce work. Artists are asked to open their studios to the public periodically. Residencies last two years, with an option to renew twice, for a total of six years. This allows studios to be accessible to a new group of artists, expanding the impact of aac's residency program.
