Mission: Arlington Neighborhood Village's mission is to help older adults remain in their homes and community safely and independently, with services and support provided by a robust and passionate intergenerational volunteer corps.
Results: In 2021, ANV responded to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and helped more than 350 seniors deal with the challenges of getting food and medication, rides to medical appointments, and learning to connect and communicate through technology. ANV fulfilled 2,680 requests from its members aged 58-100; 200+ active volunteers donated 8,610 hours of service and drove 30,100 miles at their own expense. We kept seniors safe at home and connected to their community. ANV also waived its membership fee to help lower income in-need seniors so that no one was turned away. 73% of ANV members are female; 43% are older than 80; and 68% of members live alone, the vast majority of which are female.
Target demographics: older adults
Direct beneficiaries per year: 350+ seniors by providing more than 2,680 rides to medical appointments, the grocery store and the bank; friendly visits and walking buddies; help with minor household chores, and running errands. All services are provides by volunteers. We operated continuously during the COVID-19 pandemic, waiving our membership fee to help in-need and at-risk lower income seniors.
