Mission: The mission of aasb is to advocate for children and youth by assisting school boards in providing quality public education, focused on student achievement, through effective local governance.

Programs: Aasb received the investing in innovation (i-3) grant for culturally responsive and embedded social and emotional learning (cresel). Aasb was required to secure a fifteen percent match, which it did through funding from twelve outside agencies in support of our project. Aasb partnered with six of our member districts. The framework for culturally responsive embedded social emotional learning (cresel) is a tool for alaskan school districts infusing social and emotional learning into their district and school-wide infrastructure and student and family services. The five elements in the framework - learning environment, policies, content and pedagogy, family partnerships, and professional development - are drawn from extensive research around the components of culturally responsive education.
