Mission: The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) is a global network with 80 grassroots chapters and affiliates connecting more than 100,000 professionals in STEM with members, allies and supporters worldwide. Founded in 1971, AWIS is the leading organization dedicated to driving excellence in STEM by achieving equity and full participation of women in all disciplines and across all employment sectors. Geographic areas served: Nationwide

Programs: Awards (advancing ways of awarding recognition in disciplinary societies) project to address under-representation of women among recipients of awards from stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplinary societies. Awards will increase the diversity of stem awardees and expand the number of role models who will encourage future generations of women and other under-represented groups to pursue and persist in stem careers. Organization and management of nsf advance program workshop. Goal of nsf advance is to increase representation and advancement of women in academic science and engineering careers, thereby contributing to the development of a more diverse science and engineering workforce. Advance encourages institutions of higher education and the broader stem community to address various aspects of stem academic culture and institutional structure that may differentially affect women faculty and academic administrators. All grant funds are expended for purposes of the respective grants. Grant expenses and funds may bridge multiple fiscal years.

member services - services include publications on scientific studies and access to digital resources. A quarterly magazine is provided to members that provides resources to promote women in the fields of science and technology. Also, members receive support through mentoring of individuals via a network of chapters and advice on achieving work life balance. Job opportunities for members are posted in the magazine and through web notices.

outreach and public education - respond to queries regarding women in science ranging from general statistics to requests for specific information on resources for funding. Includes website and digital resources on science policy, grant opportunities and upcoming events.
