I changed the lids to gamma 2 so can't say anything about the lids that come with the pails. It was easy to change them. But you do have to sand down any pieces of plastic of the mold that isn't smooth on the gamma lids to make them not leak. Easy to do though.

When I was very involved in Beekeeping I used these pails to store honey for bottling or bulk sales. These pails are rated for food and no chemical leaching. And now, I'm using them for container gardening. They're great for growing potatoes or vegetable plants, i.e. Cherry Tomatoes, or Eggplants. And if you've only small areas with sun they can be moved around. Even good for city balcony growing.
