Mission: Backyard Harvest works in partnership with our community to connect those with extra fresh produce and those who need it most.

Results:
•In the past ten years, we have effectively grown, gathered, and gleaned over 300,000 pounds of fresh local foods to forty-two (42) food access sites including food banks, senior meal programs, and school-based access programs throughout the four-county region of the Palouse and LC Valley.
•In the past ten years, we have also processed over 4,300 EBT/SNAP transactions through our Shop the Market program resulting in over $20,000 in FREE bonus funds for fruits & veggies to be spent by recipients at farmers markets and totaling over $95,000 in EBT/SNAP and bonus funds spent at our local farmers markets.
•We have supported the creation and continuation of multiple community gardens, provided garden education for members of various communities, and worked with children’s’ after school programs on food and nutrition education.

Target demographics: community members that might not otherwise have access to fresh, healthy produce

Direct beneficiaries per year: 40 food access sites serving an accumulative total of over 10,000 community members!

Geographic areas served: Latah, Whitman, Nez Perce, and Asotin counties

Programs: Our Community Orchard and Harvest Share programs through which we grow, gather, and glean fruits and vegetables from local farmers, orchards, and private property owners that are then distributed to food access sites such as food pantries, senior meal sites, and school-based programs. We also facilitate the use of EBT/SNAP benefits are our local farmers markets and provide free bonus funds making those dollars go 40% further while providing an opportunity for everyone in our community to access fresh, local produce.
