Mission: Why: We empower the people of Burkina Faso to live better lives. How: We approach this in a way that respects and integrates their culture, combining indigenous wisdom and modern technology. . . What: . . . to create sustainable solutions in key areas of need, such as WASH initiatives (water, sanitation and hygiene), education, empowering women, and mitigating the effects of climate change. BARKA also serves as a bridge between individuals, schools and communities of Burkina Faso and the United States to facilitate greater understanding, cultural exchange and the co-creation of a culture of peace.

Results: BARKA has drilled 6 wells, constructed 14 latrines in schools and villages, and educated tens of thousands of students and villagers about basic hygiene. BARKA's programs have directly benefited more than 25,000 people.

Target demographics: permanently break the cycle of poverty

Direct beneficiaries per year: over 2000 high school students through our Menstrual Hygiene Management program, and launched a social enterprise to produce and sell ceramic water filters to rural villagers in dire need of clean water.
