Causes: Adult Education, Education

Mission: Begin Anew of Middle Tennessee empowers individuals to overcome obstacles created by poverty by providing education, mentoring and resources. Our Core Values:We believe everyone deserves a chance to begin anew and walk a journey to a brighter future. (2 Corinthians 5:17 proclaims, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (ESV). We seek to minister holistically to every individual by addressing economic, social, and spiritual poverty. We address economic poverty through education opportunities, social poverty through mentoring and building community, and spiritual poverty by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Results: In 2021, Begin Anew continued providing adult education programs to men and women, primarily ages 18 and above. We increased resource referrals (such as groceries, clothing, job placement, counseling, rent and utility assistance, etc. ) to students in need. We bridged the digital divide by creating a loaner program of Chromebooks for students without access. Additionally, we obtained digital curriculum to aid students learning virtually, as well as purchasing equipment designed to enhance hybrid learning. Our relational community came together both digitally and in-person. New volunteers came on board and served with others already teaching, tutoring, or serving as mentors/encouragers or prayer partners. Bible studies continued and remained a safe place for students to share their journeys and fears during difficult months. We continued offering a place of refuge and learning for all of our students.
