I've destroyed two of these bandsaw tensioners and was growing frustrated because they are so useful. The metal just shredded on the nut and the rod with minimal use. My third tensioner is going on several years working just fine. The key is lubrication. I used standard 3 in 1 oil and this worked fine. I maybe added some (but not a lot) of oil each year. You have to listen for hints of metal on metal grinding and feel for rough cranking. Both are a clear sign to add oil. You really want to lube before this happens. The oil does attract saw dust, but this didn't prove to be a major issue. I recently took out the crank, cleaned it off and tried one of those teflon spray lubes for table saws, etc. Seems to be working nicely, without attracting sawdust. (Believe I tried graphite too, but I don't think it worked out well.) I don't know if the spray will hold up as well as the oil, time will tell. Either way though, lubrication is the key (and watching out for metal on metal grinding)
