Mission: MissionThe Blue White Scholarship Foundation (BWSF) is an independent 501(c)(3) Non-profit corporation, composed of alumni and friends of Villanova University. "WE BRIDGE THE (FINANCIAL AID) GAP" for Villanova juniors and seniors who are working their way through school and have experienced financial difficulty. Many of these students have extraordinary circumstances i. e. a parent or family member who is unemployed, ill or died, or have multiple siblings. The scholarship criteria includes financial need- students must have exhausted all financial aid possible- as well as excellent academic ability, superior work ethic, and willingness to "Pay It Forward. " Through 2019, over 350 students have been awarded "need based" scholarships, totaling over 2.5 million dollars. Villanova currently reports a 20% financial aid gap between demonstrated need and available awards. This scholarship program is unique in two ways: (1) the scholars take the Benjamin Franklin Pledge to "Pay It Forward" to help another BWSF student in the future (2) donors to the foundation serve as judges, helping to select the scholarship recipients. Notes from the nonprofitThe Blue White Scholarship Foundation is making steady progress toward its goal of "bridging the gap" in financial aid to junior and senior students at Villanova University. Currently there are too many Villanova students who are in danger of ending their time at the University due to lack of financial resources. These students generally come from families of modest means who have multiple siblings attending college simultaneously, or who have experienced disruptions in their financial support caused by events such as death or illness in the family. To be eligible for a Blue White Scholarship, students must be actively working to contribute to the cost of their own education, and must be willing to pledge to "pay forward" their scholarship to another Villanova student in the future.
Results: In 20 years, The Blue White Scholarship Foundation has awarded scholarships to 300+ students, totaling over $2.5+million.
