Put the hose in some boiling water, insterted the barb and fed it back through the dispenser hole. worked like a charm

The barb would have worked fine if I had a 3/16 hose. I tried to squeeze it into a 1/8 ID hose, and it doesn't work. When you buy barbs be sure about sizes. Otherwise, they do what they're supposed to.

I used these barb fittings to create circles with plastic tubing to float in my fish tank. I used 3/8 ID plastic tubing. The fit was tight as desired. Everything worked well.
