Causes: Children & Youth, Philanthropy

Mission: Bright Promises Foundation creates opportunities for children to reach their full potential by assisting other organizations to identify and implement solutions that address the most pressing, unmet needs of children.

Results: As a result of our multiple initiatives, we have developed, expanded and improved crucial programs at organizations in almost every one of Chicago’s 50 wards. We have partnered with more than 150 child-serving organizations in the last 10 years, and many of our partners have gone on to be experts in their community, training other organizations how to effectively address the needs of the at-risk children they serve. As a result of our various programs, a community-based network and infrastructure exists that continues to support organizations working in new and innovative ways to help vulnerable children.

Target demographics: Bright Promises is dedicated to supporting outcome-oriented, sustainable programs that demonstrably improve the lives of children. We work with individuals, foundations, agencies, legislators, parents, caregivers, and the media to develop and deliver programs that provide children with the basis for positive lives and brighter futures.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Bright Promises serves 65 organizations and more than 2,000 children each year.

Geographic areas served: Bright Promises Foundation serves Illinois children by linking directly with child-serving organizations that are working to address critical issues that significantly impact children's well-being and which are currently under-recognized and underfunded in Illinois.

Programs: While promoting a broad range of policies and practices essential to children’s well-being, Bright Promises works intensively on a few of the most pressing issues putting Illinois children at increased risk. The four key areas where Bright Promises is currently working include: 1.Increasing access to quality early childhood education for low-income children ages 0-5,2.Addressing the immediate and long-term impacts of childhood traumas like abuse, neglect, and poverty. 3.Enhancing parent engagement in at-risk children’s social and emotional learning, 4.Facilitating equal educational opportunities for low-income youth. Through our proven, research based model and together with leading experts, Bright Promises has identified highly effective strategies to address the 4 key areas described above, constructed guidelines, and selected highly qualified organizations who want to become leaders in their community at moving the needle in the critical areas we are working to address. Some of our current partners include Chicago Youth Centers, Enlace Chicago, Erikson Institute and Comer Children’s Hospital.
