These split peas are clean and a gorgeous deep yellow. They cook up thick and richly flavorful, a great addition to my pantry.

For traditional Swedish split pea soup (commonly served on Thursdays), you need yellow split peas (not green although I'm not sure there is any taste difference). Yellow can be a bit hard to find. My grandmother used salt pork, but I found a great smoked pork shank at our local old-fashioned meat market. Stewed that the day before to get meat off the bone and for stock along with chicken bone broth. Lots of onion, celery, carrots etc. Best of all, these peas are organic (grown in Canada) as were all my ingredients. Used Grandma's old Griswold cast iron 9 Dutch Oven (patent on the bottom says 1920 - wow 100 years!) Sooooo good. Mrs. Paul T.

I ordered these specifically because the description says they are certified gluten free, I have 2 celiacs in my home. On the back of the package the ingredients list 'may contain' wheat.
