They work, but not nearly as well as I would have wanted in brightness. Would need at least 2 of then to significantly illuminate a small area. Worse part is amount of batteries it requires!!! Still, NOT a horrible product, just could have been better.

This sure beats dealing with fuel and broken mantles on the old lanterns. Give me batteries any day. The light is very good and it is well-built. It is an excellent addition to the campsite.

Much larger than I expected but still only 390 lumens so not as bright as one would think for its size but it has a very nice, soft light. Also, takes 8 D batteries.

I bought this for the unexpected power outages that almost always catch me off guard. I have 8 d size batteries ready to install , and 8 more as spares. Although I have not used this in an emergency , I feel that it is a good precaution for stormy season.

We have 4 of these in our home. We have also given them as gifts to our children, grandchildren, parents and friends. They are wonderful if the power goes off or anytime you need them. We have one by each side of our bed.

I don't recall, and I don't have time to check, but I don't think it was stated in the product description that this lantern is powered by 8, count 'em, 8 D batteries. It's a nice lantern, and I'll keep it, but I would have been better off by getting a TacLight, which is powered by AA or AAA batteries (can't remember which). I live in FL, and it's often very hard to find D batteries when a storm is imminent or has just passed. Eight batteries for 240 hours of light is a lot of batteries, to my mind.

I bought this for my husband to take on a hunt in Colorado. He said he was super impressed by how strong the light was and that he never had to change the batteries in it (they were there for about 8 days). Given that they were up before the sun using it and still moving about camp in the dark when the returned it sounds like it was reliable and withstood the test of 6 experienced hunters!
