Update, my hot water heater is now on a timer from Walmart, set for 3 times during the day and once at night for a half hour at a time. I found the best way to use this product is to. 1 remember this is not instant heat, hot water will run out. 2 turn on for about 20 min. Turn off. The thermostat does not recognize the heat well due to the tape that is in between hot water tank and the thermostat. 3 make sure after installing you turn the water back on and fill the hot water tank before turning on the heater. It will damage the heating element if you do not. 4 due to the tape on the back of the thermostat, the water will get much hotter than desired. If you do not turn off after 15-20 minutes. This product is just what I was after, my install time 45 min. I heat the water just to get the chill out.

Picture of product makes it look like this is the whole kit which would include T-stat, wiring, element switch. All it was is the heating element. My mistake for not reading more closely. I could have and did buy an element for $9.00 not $30.00. Very sneaky representation.

I absolutely love this thing! I have an older motorhome (1984 Itasca Sunflyer) and the Atwood water heater broke and the previous owner lost the logic board. It would be 200.00 to get a new logic board or 400.00 for a new water heater so I decided to give Hybrid Heat a try and I am thrilled with it. The thing heats the water quickly and recovers nicely. One thing to note is that the thermostat that you stick to the tank is at the bottom of the rectangular assembly. Our hot water tank is rounded so I could only get half of the rectangle to make contact and of course I picked the half that didn’t have the thermostat in it so the hybrid heat was actually boiling the water in the tank! I emailed Camco and asked for some extra double sided tape to re mount the thermostat and not only did they send more tape but a whole new thermostat in case that was the issue! You really can’t go wrong with this, even if your propane water heater works. Why pay for propane when power in the campground is free or if you really need hot water fast you can run both the propane and electric elements!

This works really well. It's great not to have to burn propane when I'm plugged in at a campground or using the motorhome for guests at my house. A couple of things to keep in mind if you install one: The thermostat block that you stick to the side of your tank that allows this to regulate heat, has a built-in safety shut-off if it detects the tank getting hotter than it's supposed to. That's great, but if you are not plugged in, and you heat your tank with propane, and that makes the water get hotter than your Hybrid Heat setting, it will pop that safety, and the next time you try to heat using electric, it won't work. You will have to push the safety button back in (on the top of the thermostat block). Also, when I installed mine, I drilled a hole to feed the wires inside, then I used silicone to seal the hole. I didn't think about leaving enough slack in the wires to make sure I could unscrew and remove the probe when/if I wanted to ever drain the tank (for winterizeing, etc.). Fortunately, as it turns out, I left JUST enough to barely get the probe out without having to cut away all that silicone and release the wires. Make sure you think of that ahead of time and make sure whatever you do to secure the wiring or seal it up leaves enough slack to remove the device when necessary.

Worked great for a year in my old camper. Takes about 1.5 hours to get hot. Just plugged in to shore power when we hook up. Hot water with out the hassle of propane. Will probably buy another for new camper. Good instructions and everything u need to install it.
