Mission: Carver’s mission is to close opportunity gaps for all children and to ensure they graduate high school on time and ready for college and careers. To achieve our mission, Carver combines a set of key partnerships between school districts and their highly skilled educators, community organizations and parents to deliver after-school, summer and community programs that consistently demonstrate striking results. Carver is Norwalk’s largest provider of before and after school and summer programs. Carver serves more than 2,500 students before and after school and during the summer, operating in 17 K-12 Norwalk Public Schools, Side By Side Charter School, the Carver Community Center, and the Classical Studies Magnet Academy in Bridgeport.

Results: Since 2005,100% of Carver seniors have graduated on time; typically at least 95% of Carver seniors enroll in college immediately following graduation (100% in 2019). 85% of Carver college students graduate from four-year colleges and universities within six years, while just 11 percent of students nationally from the lowest-income quartile earn bachelor’s degrees within six years. Carver infuses high expectations, academic rigor, and healthy relationships into its youth development approach to instruction and support. Carver provides support that recognizes individual strengths, needs, and learning styles. Carver is one of the very few charities nationally to receive the highest ratings from both Charity Navigator and Guidestar each year, far exceeding industry standards for financial health, transparency and accountability to donors.
