Mission: The mission of Catie’s Cause is to build awareness around the safe use of acetaminophen and other over the counter pain medications so that tragedies are averted. Concurrently we promote wellness initiatives that can reduce the penchant to reach for pain medication.

Results: Our social media campaigns have reached over 42,000 individuals and growing daily. We regularly receive messages from those we impact who share that they are more aware and much more careful about their use of acetaminophen. By striving to become a ‘go to’ resource and repository of information and research on the safe use of acetaminophen, we intend to impact behaviors that might otherwise lead to injury and death.

Target demographics: The general public, and particularly young adults and their parents, those with young children, those with limited access to healthcare, the elderly and those who care for them.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 42,000 learned about proper cautions and safe use of acetaminophen in our first 12 months+. Concurrently we promote wellness initiatives that might reduce the penchant to reach for pain medications.

Geographic areas served: By harnessing the power of the internet, our Social Media Campaigns and presentations are designed to impact the widest possible audience.

Programs: We post to social media (Facebook @CatiesCause) (Instagram @CatiesCause) with daily campaigns that raise awareness about how to safely use acetaminophen and to provide wellness based options to reduce the overuse of acetaminophen. Acetaminophen, according to NCBI, is the leading cause of calls to poison control, leads to tens of thousands of hospital admissions as well as hundreds of deaths each year in the US. Our campaigns are aimed at vulnerable groups: young adults, parents of young children, those with limited access to medical care and the elderly. These are all groups who’ve been impacted by acetaminophen poisoning, liver damage, liver failure and death. This occurs due to misuse and lack of understanding or belief in the warnings on acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is most commonly marketed as Tylenol but is in over 600 medications per the FDA. Due to its various potential issues it has a black box warning, meaning it can cause serious injury and death. It also has a slim margin of error in dosing. Sustained use can lead to liver failure due to toxic byproducts created when processed by the body. Sustained use can also lead to serious and deadly skin reactions. While widely used its warnings are quite serious and often overlooked.
