Mission: The mission of cat's cradle is to ensure and maintain a safe, compassionate community for cats in the shenandoah valley. We do this by facilitating and promoting spay/neuter of owned cats and trap, neuter, and return (tnr), foster-based rescue and adotpion from local shelters, and pet retention and rehoming programs. Out intent is to steadily decrease the intake of cats and kittens at local shelters and to ultimately end the euthanasia of healthy adoptable pets in the communities we serve.

Programs: Adoption program-602 cats were adopted in 2017, averaging 50 cats per month. Cats were adopted from our local petsmart and petco stores as well as through the internet. All cats were altered, tested, vaccinated and treated for parasites prior to adoption. Many of these cats came to us injured or ill requiring additional vetting expenditures to ready for adoption. Cats were taken in from area organizations, such as page county animal shelter in page county, va, and the shenandoah valley animal services center in augusta county, va. In addition, 263 cats were transported to adoption to three no-kill shelter partners, north shore animal league (nyc), the pennsylvania spca and the brandywine spca (pa). Contributed veterinary services in the form of discounts totalled 1073.93.

spay/neuter program-1,932 cats were altered during the year. We partnered with the anicira veterinary clinic to provide low cost spay/neuter to pet owners and caretakers in rockingham, page and augusta county, virginia, as well as the cities of harrisonburg, staunton and waynesboro. Services included transportation, trapping and financial assistance or any combination thereof depending on the client needs. Most people provided some level of copay.

medical assistance/pet retention-189 families received medical assistance for their cats in 2017.Medical/boarding assistance is provided to cat owners or caretaker of strays with financial circumstances that prevent them from being able to obtain veterinary care or short-term boarding for their cats, thus promoting pet retention.
