Mission: Cat population care/control

Programs: In 2017, the cny cat coalition continued growing our mission to rescue, foster, spay/neuter, and adopt out homeless animals in our community. We also progressed our spay/neuter campaign for cats owned by low-income individuals. Through our two low-cost clinics and several participating veterinarians, we altered over 2,300 cats in 2017, preventing the birth of potentially thousands of unwanted kittens. In addition, we adopted more than 530 homeless cats to loving forever homes through our adoption program affiliation with petfinder, petsmart charities, and through personal advocacy. We have also increased our base of foster homes which makes it possible to help more cats and kittens in the future. Every week we receive between 35-50 telephone calls, emails or facebook postings from the community seeking assistance with a variety of cat situations, often involving litters of kittens. This is in addition to calls to our dedicated phone line for spay and neuter assistance. In 2017, cnycc received a 25,000 grant from the aspca through the new york ag and markets animal population and control program to help spay and neuter pets belonging to low-income households. We also received a 7,500 grant from the petco corporation to help in our mission to end cat overpopulation and homelessness. A large source of income is our partnership with syracuse university's carrier dome. We supply volunteers to serve concessions during events at the large venue. Their wages are donated directly to cnycc from the university. Cnycc also participated in several community events, including the canine carnival, a very successful garage sale, paint nite, and numerous other smaller fundraisers.
