Causes: Cancer

Mission: We strive to promote education and disease prevention by informing the public in the state of Tennessee about HPV and cervical cancer.

Programs: The Witness Project is a grass roots community-based, breast and cervical cancer education program. Its goal is to educate African American women about how best to protect themselves from breast and cervical cancer.
Goals: To use survivors of breast and cervical cancer to be trained to go out to the neighborhood churches, civic centers, and other organizations to tell their stories and hopefully encourage women to go to get check-ups. Desired Outcome: Initially, to see at least a 50% increase in women going in to see there OB-GYN and getting yearly Paps and Mamograms. Measuring Our Success: We will have a survey composed of "before and after" questions that the survivors will take to their speaking engagements and have the audience fill out. From this we will gauge how well our message is getting across to the general public. We also plan on working with other health organizations and having volunteers go with some of the Witness participants, to answer any professional questions.
