It's a sturdy, but pricey shelf for a server cabinet. Works great to hold not mountable items and was easy to install in the rack.

I wanted a shelf for cables and miscellaneous storage in the rack of my music studio. I have a standard 19 inch rack which I have mounted my Behringer ARP 2600. I use a lot of patch cables with it so I wanted something to keep them handy and nearby. I looked at several options and quite honestly most were ridiculously price. This one by StarTech is perfect. It is solid, well built, plenty deep for extra storage and a decent price. For my needs I highly recommend it.

If you look closely at the photo, between the two PDU's, you can see how I use these... Sorry the photo isn't great. It's an old photo. I put these shelves between redundant PDU's, and redundant switches. I mount my PDU's and switches facing forward. These shelves give me a place to coil up, and lose extra cable so I can use standard length cables without having to buy custom length power and ethernet cables. The direction of the slots (front to back, instead of side to side), and the fact that the front bottom lip is bent DOWN instead of up, gives you enough room, and places the velcro going in a convenient direction to slip the velcro through the slots, and secure the cables to the shelf, before running out the front and looping into your PDU/switch. This is hands down, the absolute neatest way I've ever found to do cabling short of having 100 custom length everything.

What like1. The shelf is vented, so the networking hardware heat will pass through the shelf.2. It came with the a verity of networking mounting hardware to suit all types of 19 racks.3. It's powder coated rather than just painted meaning the finish won't easily chip.4. the holes are elongated to installing a slightly tweaked rack is not an issue.What I don't like...Can't think of anything

This was one of the least expensive 2U rack shelf that I could find. I figured, a shelf like this has one job, to be a folded piece of metal with holes that I can screw into a rack.The shelf does that job, though it arrived bent near the mount and already had a slight sag. The shelf I received was either used, or StarTech has very poor manufacturing quality assurance.It is sturdy and holds my mac mini and 2bay NAS without issues. I imagine I could add more weight without seeing any issues. It looks nice from 1-2 meters away but with close examination, the bend in the left mount and the slight sag becomes more apparent.I installed the shelf with my own screws. The purchase of this shelf is a roll of the dice on whether yours will be in good condition, or just like mine.TLDR; Sturdy shelf, good metal, good price. Left side arrived bent, middle appeared to be sagging on arrival. Not sure if I got used item or if all are like this.

I put a tower format UPS and a Synology NAS on this shelf in my rack. Works great and hold them both without flexing or bending. I also like that its ventilated. What more is there to say.

This StarTech 1U steel shelf is perfect for my needs. I support (4) Uniden scanners in a computer rack mount style cabinet. Two radios on top and two bolted to the bottom. Excellent choice for strength and support.I would definitely purchase again. Highly recommended.

My server rack at work is an old 4-post telco rack with threaded posts. It's far less than ideal for mounting modern server rails and shelving but because it's already anchored to the floor and works, I'm not inclined to install a new rack unless it's absolutely necessary.This shelf works great for both modern server racks and the old telco racks where you may need to install a front or rear facing shelf to support equipment without having to buy a full shelf. For my use, I have a workstation that I wanted to have on the front of the rack only and didn't want to spend much money on it. With at least four screws in, this rack and the workstation sitting on it are rock solid.

Fit my tower as needed. Put my backup SSD / Access point / Modem on this rack so it wouldnt be sitting on top of my server and heating everything up as a bundle.Really cleaned my server rack up and made me happy.

I've installed a bunch of these for my customers. This one is as good or better than the other brands I get from my normal IT distributors. The metal has a nice thickness to it, it's sturdy, and has a quality coating. For the price it can't be beat.

I can compare this to a lower cost shelf at the same size but $10 less, it much higher quality, it would take a lot of weight to bend this shelf.

Works as advertised and fits well in my home wall mountable rack. I was able to use it to place my cable modem, synology, and security camera system without it dangling off the edge of the shelf.
