Mission: Founded in 1967, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is the largest independent conservation organization dedicated solely to saving the Bay. Serving as a watchdog, we fight for effective, science-based solutions to the pollution degrading the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams. Our motto, "Save the Bay, " is a regional rallying cry for pollution reduction throughout the Chesapeake's six-state, 64,000-square-mile watershed, which is home to more than 18 million people and 3,000 species of plants and animals.

Target demographics: Residents of Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware, and New York who live within the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 37,000+ citizens take action; 40,000+ students and teachers educated about the environment.

Geographic areas served: Chesapeake Bay Watershed, including Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware, and New York

Programs: Education: CBF has provided more than 40,000 students and teachers with field-based, hands-on inspiring education programs at 14 centers in VA, MD, PA, and DC. Advocacy: We help tens of thousands of citizens take action for clean water; successfully lobby for legislation and funding to restore the Chesapeake Bay and the rivers and streams that feed it. Restoration: planted millions of juvenile oysters on sanctuary reefs, planted tens of thousands of trees, restored hundreds of acres of wetlands. Litigation: Successfully make the case for clean air, clean water, and protection of critical areas.
