Mission: Citizens’ Committee for Children of New York (CCC) is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan, multi-issue child advocacy organization known for strong analytic work, community engagement and fact-based advocacy. Since our founding in 1944 by a group of prominent New Yorkers including Eleanor Roosevelt, CCC has focused on ensuring that all children are healthy, housed, educated and safe.

Results: By working both independently and in collaboration with colleagues, we have successfully advocated for:

· New York City's Earned Income Tax Credit and the first local Child Care Tax Credit in the country;

· Green Cart legislation that added fresh produce vendors to food deserts across the city;

· Pre-Kindergarten for every 4-year-old, and high quality affordable child care for as many families as possible;

· Strengthening and expanding access to Newborn Home Visiting;

· Breakfast in the Classroom for 500+ elementary schools and universal free lunch for all city public schools;

· Additional Family Court judges to address court delays for thousands of children and families across the state;

· Raising the age of criminal responsibility in New York State;

· Restoring and baselining funds to protect abuse and neglect prevention; and

· Historic investments in community-based mental health services.

Target demographics: All children in New York, especially the nearly 500,000 children who live in poverty in New York City and face multiple barriers to well-being.

Geographic areas served: New York

Programs:
· Keeping Track of New York City's Children, the most extensive evergreen database available on the status of the city's nearly 2 million children, which informs our priorities and is used extensively by parents, professionals, government officials and others to understand and improve the lives of New York City's children.

· Innovative child advocacy courses like our Community Leadership Course for adults, and YouthActionNYC for high school students, and e-advocacy tools and policy briefings that reach tens-of-thousands of New Yorkers annually, helping them to understand the issues and what they can do to help children.

· Research, analysis and advocacy across many issue areas, including community and child welfare, early care and education, financial and food stability, health and mental health, housing and homelessness, and juvenile justice and youth. We study children’s issues deeply, conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses of neighborhoods, State and City budgets, and programs that serve children and families.
