Mission: City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue rescues adoptable cats and dogs in overcrowded and high-kill shelters, where resources are severely limited. We offer a lifeline to as many of these wonderful animals as possible. Sadly, many of the cats and dogs that City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue takes are just days — and sometimes hours — away from being euthanized for no reason other than lack of space. By finding these animals permanent and loving homes in the DC metropolitan area, we enrich lives of humans and their pets. We welcome your help in any capacity, through volunteering, fostering, adopting, sponsoring and/or donating. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is a "rescue" not a "shelter. " We are made up of a network of volunteers (most with full-time jobs) who foster cats and dogs in their homes. Since most of our available animals are living in private homes, we cannot arrange a visit without an adoption application and an appointment with the foster family.

Results: As of July 2022, we've rescued 9,500+ cats and dogs. In 2020 alone (as of 9/2020), -- 1500+ dogs and cats were spayed or neutered -- 940+ dogs and cats transported to rescue-- 350+ medical cases were treated

Target demographics: adoptable dogs and cats at risk of euthanasia

Direct beneficiaries per year: 9,500 + cats and dogs as of July 2022

Geographic areas served: the Washington DC metro area (to include parts of MD and VA)

Programs: Adoption Program: City Dogs and City Kitties Rescue (CDCK) has a comprehensive adoption program to ensure that its dogs and cats are placed in loving and well-suited homes. The adoption program consists of an adoption application, a review with an adoption counselor, reference and veterinarian checks, and a home visit.

Foster Program: City Dogs and City Kitties Rescue has a thriving foster program that enables the organization to rescue hundreds of dogs and cats each year. We do not have a shelter, therefore we rely on our amazing fosters to fulfill our mission. Interested foster families complete an application and a review process.

Volunteer Program: City Dogs and City Kitties Rescue relies on volunteers to conduct the organization's activities. Volunteers provide a wide array of services including, applications processors, foster assistants, animal transport, intake and shelter coordination, fundraising, medical care coordination, and marketing and communications.
