Mission: Cocoon House's mission is to empower young people, families and the community to break the cycle of homelessness through outreach, housing and prevention. To carry out this mission we have developed a continuum of services to serve homeless, at-risk and highly disconnected youth and their families in Snohomish County, providing housing, prevention and street outreach services.

Target demographics: Young People ages 12-24

Direct beneficiaries per year: 2,500 young people and their families

Geographic areas served: Snohomish County

Programs: Cocoon House serves youth ages 12-24 through our three core programs: prevention, outreach, and housing. Our prevention and outreach departments are equipped with community resources, communication and advocacy skills, and the passion to help at-risk and street-dependent youth reunite with their families. Through seminars, counseling, and gentle, low-barrier advocacy services, these programs carry out our mission to end youth homelessness by either preventing the teen from leaving home in the first place, or providing counseling and mediation services to reunite families after the teen has left. However, we know this family reunification is not always possible. Unfortunately, many young people leave home because the streets are a safer environment than a family home where they are subjected to emotional and/or physical abuse, substance abuse, and otherwise toxic living environments. For whatever the reason, many teens are unable to find safe and stable housing with their family. If we are unable to reunite the family, Cocoon House offers stability, accountability, and safety through their housing program: two emergency shelters (Monroe, Everett), long-term housing (Everett), and a home for teen mothers and their babies (Arlington). Through whatever means necessary, Cocoon House provides a safe and stable home environment for youth to thrive and succeed.
