My grandfather had one. My father had one. I finally have one. Works better than Dad's did (tho I think its because he didnt understand how to store them so they didnt gum up). Received mine with a dent- even though the box was undamaged. Still works perfect and its gonna get dented over the decades anways so no worries. Only very minor issue, it's not Coleman green. Coleman stuff should always be green.

The lantern is bright and will stay lit for a long time. It also throws off a nice heat. I recommend purchasing extra mantles as well as the plastic travel case. The globe is glass and can break if mishandled. It's prefect for camping and outdoors. It is not recommended for use inside because of the gas fumes. If you're looking to get something for indoors, I'd recommend a Deitz lantern and kerosene.

I received this product completely shattered and broken. I cut myself badly on broken glass when opening the box.

This is very bright and the liquid fuel and hissing sound of the lantern bring me back to family camping trips as a child. If you like old school and mechanical things you'll like this. If you are looking for simplicity you should go with a propane version instead of this as liquid fuel is a bit more finicky to light and maintain. NOT an indoor light backup due to the smell and Co2 hazard.Buy It: If you like having the option to run Coleman gas or gasoline and really enjoy the old school effect of this. You'll need to pump up the fuel tank pressure, light it with a match or lighter, be comfortable with something that really flares up fire when first lit, and be ok that you have to replace very fragile mantles from time to time. Outdoor use ONLY due to the carbon monoxide factor, fumes smell, and flame flare up at lighting. I love this thing.Don't Buy It: If you are looking for the most convenience and ease of use. Use propane or a battery powered LED lantern for that. Propane is self pressurized, lights a bit easier, and is a little brighter and you don't have to store liquid fuel. The mantles are still the same, fragile version as liquid fuel so you have to be a little careful and occasionally replace. If none of that is appealing or you need INDOOR light buy an LED lantern.

Dual fuel though coleman camp fuel preferred. Once mantles burned initial firing done it is very adjustable. No more ugly LED light. A welcome addition. Got the case 2 1.5 liter fuel bottles for back up too. Ready for anything.

I got this to use in my wall tent for a Colorado elk hunt. I'm very happy with how it performed with no complaints. There is a small learning curve using this over a push button LED, but with days away from electricity this was a better option. Easy to use, and worked very well to light the wall tent 16'x16' space.

While I'm quite happy with the lamp and the light it puts out, mine came with a large dent in the collar between the tank and the upper section of the lamp. Not something I'd expect for the price I paid, especially since my 100 year old Coleman lamp has survived it's whole live without similar issues.

This is the only lantern that is available that uses liquid fuel that is readily available (unleaded gasoline)or Coleman fuel.

I grew up camping with one of these in the sixties, my father's single-mantle one, which of course never failed. Coleman is an American icon of camping equipment, reasonably priced. Oh, you can buy a Petromax or a Britelyte mantle lantern, but you're gonna pay a boatload more money for no more capability. With care, one of these will last generations. However, if not, or if an accident happens, one isn't bankrupted. I own three in both single- and dual-mantle. We just went through more than a week without electricity here in TX due to a hurricane. While these amazing lanterns aren't safe for indoor use, my family and I certainly enjoyed cooking and cooling off on our patio. Yes, I own LED and fuel oil lanterns and use them, but they won't replace these icons of great design. But--buy one while you can, 'cause I'm expecting them to be discontinued. In just the couple of months since I bought this lantern the cost has gone up about $30!

Lantern is of the original Coleman quality, meaning excellent. It lights easily, and does not need much pumping to get it going. Make sure you screw the pump knob closed prior to lighting! Great product.

Every time I would get ready to push the button to buy this lantern they sold out or the price whent up but finally ordered one. I was excited when it arrived and had to open up the box. When I pulled it out I found top had a spot about the size of a dime where the ceramic didn't cover and a small dent by the control knob. There were no damage to the box. I put it together and installed the mantles and fired it up and it worked great and the hiss brought back great family camping memories. Colman needs to work on quality control but I would buy it again and recommend this lantern.
