Mission: Compassion for Cats of New London County Inc. is a charitable, 501c3 organization dedicated to saving the lives of abandoned, abused and neglected animals, getting them their necessary medical care and adopting them into responsible, loving homes. We also take in and find homes for cats and kittens whose owners could no longer keep because of owners debilitating illness or death.
Results: Every year we are asked to do more and more rescues of cats and kittens. We try hard to raise as much money as possible but it's never enough. Many non-profits have large bank accounts, we don't have anything. We keep a minimum balance, as we help all the cats we can, as that's why we're here. If a cat or kitten is suffering they deserve help, and medical help is expensive. We help first, raise the money later as we can't sleep knowing there's suffering out there. We have increased our fundraising, and the amount of cats we help every year, so we think out results are quite good!
Target demographics: Stray and abandoned cats and kittens.
Direct beneficiaries per year: We had a record year of adoptions in 2019, but we have already passed that amount as of August in 2020.This means we take in a record amount of cats as well.
Geographic areas served: New London County, Ct.
Programs: We rescue from outside, but also take in cats and kittens from people for many reasons that include; unable to keep, left outside when moving, sickness and death, allergies, new spouse or partner moving in, plus many more reasons people give up their pets. We take them in, get them the best medical treatment first, then give them lots of love. When ready we find the best forever home for each cat as they deserve nothing less. We have an application process that helps us find people that will give them as much love as we have. We do help people while helping the cats as our volunteers benefit emotionally by giving. We also help low income and paycheck to paycheck as we do end up paying for medical for some cats to keep them in their loving home, as we try to get grants for this purpose. There's also many people that need an emotional support cat, and we'll match them up if we're able to.
