5 freakin stars man!!!! One of the best Batman stories I've ever read, and the funny thing is its actually a Dick Grayson story since he takes up the mantle of the Dark Knight in this dark thriller.

This is by far my favorite of Snyder's Batman stories. I know some will be detracted by having Dick in the role in this book and would prefer Bruce, but Snyder does an amazing job of exploring Dick's role as Batman and bringing a new take to both Batman and Dick. And to top off the worthwhile story is Jock's beautiful artwork that is always in top form when paired with Snyder's work.

The story was pretty good. I'm not used to Dick Grayson as Batman but he's not bad. Uses a lot of gadgets. I didn't like the color palette used in these stories. Too much orange and yellow, not easy on the eyes. I also disliked the Kindle formatting. This version is not the best quality. It's blurry / fuzzy in parts, and this version doesn't let you pinch to zoom in. You can only double tap, and get a default zoom. This is annoying. All in all, okay story but not exactly awesome either.

Great read. I don't follow most recent comics but this was really well done. Some of the art could have been better but it was never bad enough to confuse what was happening. One of the darker comics I've ever read so wouldn't recommend for young readers.

Enter the cockpit into your wayback machine, and you'll remember that, for a while, Bruce Wayne was dead. For a year or three, his ward Dick Grayson took over the cape and cowl as the Batman. In that time, Detective Comics traded hands, and Scott Snyder took over with writing duties, teaming up with Jock and Francesco Francavilla before the DC Universe whacked the television and did a hard reboot. This collection of eight issues is particularly powerful. I'm really satisfied with it, and it's hard for me to convey all of it to you.Snyder brings up a character from the past, James, son of Commissioner Jim Gordon that covers the major storyarc, over a smearing of smaller storyarcs. It's comics storytelling at its finest. Some of them take three issues, some of them are just one, but all of them create this great atmosphere. It's this intangible thing that comes together with the right colors, the right art and the right words. Issue 874 really stands out to me. It's broken up into three parts, and tells the story of James meeting his father the Commissioner, while flashing back to this chilling memory of an incident during James' childhood. I've never read a more chilling conversation between father and son. Good job, Francavilla! This review was originally posted on my blog chezkevin.blogspot.com

This is a great cerebral Batman story, but it's a touch too talky. Though it's not completely devoid of action, many pages and panel are just talk -- much more tell than show. However when coupled with the striking visuals, it is still a wonderful read.
