Product came with nothing. It came untuned (I expected that) but it was impossible for me to tune it right because I didn’t have the tools to do so. After trying to tune it with pliers and my fingers, I gave up cause my fingers started to really hurt. I found another kalimba that has a hammer, stickers, and an amp connector for less than this kalimba alone. I loved the color of it though.

Nice-sounding Kalimba, easy to tune. However, metal keys began changing color (chipping layers of metal) very quickly, after first two weeks of playing this instrument, which is disappointing & frustrating, especially after spending so much money. You expect better quality as per the price. If the metal keys were better quality, I would give this instrument a better review.

I read all the reviews before buying it and it was just as I expected, if not better! Anyone that's willing to tune it will love it!

Hard to figure out how to tune it. Instructions aren't good - not in English.

When I got this, I almost cried. I've always wanted a kalimba. Just a note that it does not come tuned in any way. The small instructions in the bottom of the box, however, gave clear instructions on how to tune it to the key of D. You can of course tune however you see fit.

Otherwise, feels great in the hands, no jagged edges or sharp points. No cracks, dents, or otherwise unsightly scratches on it. I may try to buy another at some point in the future to have a second key rather than retuning. Also, make sure you have fingernails on your thumbs or you're going to hurt.

Although it didn't come tuned, with some pliers and a good musical ear it's easy to set up in almost any key you'd like. Although the booklet suggested the key of D, I opted to tune to C as it allows the exterior keys to ring more clearly. I only gave four stars for not being tuned upon arrival -- otherwise it sings and rings so, so beautifully it's easy to just thumb around with it mindlessly, almost in a trance

Our daughter is very much enjoying this. She likes to play several musical instruments. This was a little challenging to tune and she found directions online.

This is well-made and was easy to tune by using a pencil to push the tines back and forth; that combined with a tuner phone app. I put it into the key of D, one of my favorites.

Bought this as a small hobby instrument when I don't feel like playing my primary instruments. Arrived neatly and well packaged although I do have to say that there was a small crack on the back side but it has not got any worse and hasn't changed.
Of course I had to tune all the metal bars because **no instrument will come perfectly or relatively tuned right out of the box**, so I went ahead and tuned it to the key of Bb major using a Snark® tuner and a coin to push the bars back and forth, and it stayed in tune. I believe the manual said you can tune it from the key of A to C, however judging by the sound I would recommend A to B

After a short while the finish on the bars began to wear off and now it's beginning to look dull. Purely cosmetic and has not affected the performance nor the tuning. I do have to mention that one of the mid range notes on the kalimba keeps rattling when I play it, perhaps I just need to readjust that particular bar to be a little to the left or right.

Overall I am very satisfied for my very first kalimba and the price is reasonable for an entry level/beginner's kalimba or just something to play with on your spare time.
And yes, it is made in the middle east.

Tuning takes some effort, but it's worth it. Great sound, except for the shortest tines, which don't really resonate.

I had one of these many years ago after seeing Taj Mahal in concert where he began by holding a Hugh Tracey version of this up to the microphone and noodling around with it and saying "Everybody should have one of these!" I bought one almost immediately and enjoyed it for many years but it gradually bit the dust what with moving around and letting toddlers play with it. I have always missed it and found this at a very reasonable price so I snapped it up. It arrived almost overnight, and initially I had a sinking feeling that what other reviewers had written about its horrible sound possibly being true. They're not true at all -- it's a great little instrument with a very nice tone, once it's tuned properly.

For some reason (probably to keep the cost low) this arrives untuned, so it sounds horrible with none of the beautiful resonance that happens when it is played after being tuned. The instructions, while being accurate about how to tune it, in my opinion are horribly off-base when they suggest that it should be tuned to a D major scale. As another reviewer has already pointed out, when it's tuned to D the highest tines are too short to produce decent sounding notes. I remembered my original Kalimba being tuned to a C major scale, so I just spent the last half-hour tuning my new one to a C major scale and it sounds great, just like I remember.

It's very unfortunate that this arrives untuned because non-musicians who simply want to enjoy the pleasures of making pleasing sounds on it are sadly disappointed and unless they have musician-friends to help them tune it, it's worthless to them. I used a combination of my ears, matching the tines to the pitches on the piano and then used an electronic tuner for the final fine-tuning. Initially it's very difficult to move the tines, and trying to push it with the flat edge of a screwdriver like it says in the instructions is not very productive. I needed to use small pliers to grab the playing end of each tine and slide it side-to-side while pulling to make the longer. After each tine began to move it got easier to move it but initially the tines were very stiff. It's important to pay attention to the pliers because they will slip off the tine easily if you're not careful and they can scratch the wooden resonating box.

So my 5-star rating is because of how nice it is when it's tuned -- I wish I could give a rating for what it's like out of the box and another rating for how it ends up. For non-musicians, how it comes is only 1 star in my opinion. For musicians who have the patience and the skill to tune it, I would rate it 3 stars right out of the box. But once it's tuned to the key of C major, it rates 5 stars.
