Great..i tuned it and love it !

Arrived a week earlier than expected, which was a wonderful surprise.<br /><br />Arrived untuned (but I expected no less), and it still sounded mesmerizing regardless. Tuning is difficult, but I gather it's difficult to tune any kalimba. It's not easy to slide the tines into place, but that also means tuning should hold. It comes with a recommended tuning (D), but you obviously don't have to use it (I tuned mine to an E harmonic minor scale starting on a B and it's wonderfully, hauntingly exotic). Also, I noticed another reviewer was angry that it was out of tune. . .whoever you are, it comes with a piece of paper TELLING YOU you have to tune it. You had the paper, you said it yourself. Don't blame the product because you didn't bother with reading a few sentences.<br /><br />Since all the tines are in a single row, it can be difficult to strike an isolated key if you have larger thumbs or if you don't have long-ish nails.<br /><br />Highly recommended for anyone wanting to take a stab at a new instrument. I don't know how it compares to &#34;higher quality&#34; ones, but this seems damn good for its price.

Read lots of other reviews before purchasing. I'm very happy I went ahead. Yes, it was a lot of work to tune it (and thankfully had a friend w/an app for that to help). Once that was out of the way (whew!), it has a very lovely,soothing, sound (and won't be coming out of tune any time soon). Read that some people had more &#34;blemishes&#34; than others, I couldn't find one, and that was a relief since it arrived on my son's birthday.

Tuning this instrument was a challenge. I like challenges so no stars are lost on that account. Once tuned, this little thumb piano is so much fun to play with. The sound is light and, well, plinky, if that makes sense.

Great little kalimba, but, be warned, it does not come already tuned. As I collect kalimbas, this was not a problem for me since I can tune kalimbas. For those just starting out learning how to play a kalimba, this may not be the kalimba for you.

Christmas gift for my oldest Son. He loves it and it plays beautifully! There was not a single blemish on it - at least none that we could find, and we scoured for anything slightly resembling a mar. Nothing wrong with it at all. It's gorgeous! Very pleased with this gift.

IT DOES NOT COME TUNED - youtube a tuning video. Not hard to do, but when you first get it you'll be like...uh...this thing only makes creepy haunted house music. The box itself is great quality - highly recommend

The Kalimba is an AFRICAN instrument! The thumb piano or kalimba is an African musical instrument, a type of plucked idiophone (lamellophone) common throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. Also known as a &#34;sansa&#34; and &#34;mbira&#34;, it is popular throughout central, western and eastern Africa. It is probably one of the first prototypes of modern piano. The kalimba is played by holding the instrument in the hands and plucking the tines with the thumbs. The name kalimba was originally only used for the gourd thumb piano.
