I was so excited to find this book but after I read all of the sample pages I felt totally opposite. I was feeling anger and darkness; not the happy and lighthearted way a fairy tale should make you feel. I understand and appreciate Deaf Culture but fairy tales should be able to incorporate joy into our lives not judgement and complexity.

Roz Rosen has my utmost respect. Rosen was a former educator, college administrator, community leader, and currently sign language rights advocate; adapted well-known classic stories with a twist to educate the audience about our Deaf experiences. Rosen's stories were so witty and amusing! I chuckled, roared with laughter, cheered, and smiled because each story have hidden messages which 34;speaks volumes34; about our Deaf experiences in all levels. Often times when a member of the linguistic and cultural minority shares our experiences, and their stories usually get ignored because it was not within the majority's frame of reference. Rosen's use of classical stories with a twist effectively drives the message across! Rosen's sense of humor reminds me of Andy Borowitz, the famous satirical writer. It is worth every single penny! Roz Rosen, yes, Phoenix soars again! Thank you.

As a passionate literacy advocate for young children, what a joy to see more angles of familiar stories by brilliantly incorporating Deaf culture and capitalizing on signers’ ways of communicating. These adapted stories provide an education for all, passing on the joy of reading for many more generations to come!” Deanne Bray, Actress and Teacher

Finally! A Deaf-centric reframe on our treasured fairy tales that will surely breathe new life into these ageless classics. Flavia S. Fleischer, Ph.D., California State University, Northridge Deaf Studies Department Chair
