We loved these the first time we used them! I’m quite aware on how to take care of cast iron, so when it rusted due to my neglect, it wasn’t a problem. Some steel wool, lard, and a fire later we were good. Why the two star review? Pie irons fall off the stick. There is no indication when or where, but I had a pie iron that was incredibly hot almost fall into my lap. It missed my daughter by less than a foot. I was completely confused by this. Then I discovered they are held into place by two tiny pieces of metal. They are the size of a grain of rice. My husband used a nail set to spread the small pieces of metal out so that maybe they would not fall out. No dice. When I put the pie irons over the fire to reseason them, all of the small pieces of metal fell out of the two pie irons. Honestly, I’m very hesitant to even give it two stars because the flaw is incredibly dangerous. It only earns two stars because the irons themselves are pretty good quality. If kids are using it, I highly recommend running away. No need for a several hundred degree heavy pie iron to fall in a kiddos lap.
