Not used much any more know days, but one of the best to check to see if got a dead cell in a battery.

Find a good source on working with batteries and follow all safety precautions. Always wear glooves and eye protection. Test at room termperture. Be extremely carefully to not short out battery.<br />This is better than I expected. Over the years on various jobs, I have taken thousands of readings on large wet cell station batteries. This one is as easy to read as any manual hydrometer I have ever used. It is well made with materials that look like they will stand the test of time.I like that the fluid reservour is big. What It do is fill and enpty the reservour until i start getting consistent readings. 3-4 times. Remember don't test right after charging. 6-8 hours minimum. as for accuracy, I tested a new automobile battery. The reading on each cell showed good and were vere close to the same.

I really like this tester because of the pickup tube that goes straight down. It doesn't require as much electrolyte to get a reading, which is great as the smaller batteries used in new, smaller cars don't allow you to get enough liquid to fill some of the other testers. I can use anything on our Wrangler or 76 pickup, but the Honda requires a tester like this. Another plus is, that this tester is really easy to flush clean as the tube going straight down helps with that too. Another advantage to the straight tube is, that when you are filling it, one can keep it level when filling to the fill line, which will give more accurate readings.

I love this thing, I made my own battery acid mix using Kleen-Out Sulfuric Acid Drain Opener and distilled water, and needed to test the electrolyte level this worked great. It was able to tell me the exact reading for my mix before and after I put the new mix in my old battery. I bought Alum to experiment with and when it didn't work, I did my next experience with sulfuric acid and my battery works now. I tested it first with water and it tells you when the mixture is just water.

Simple to use. I have never check a battery before and this simple device made it easy (found 1 bad cell). Just remember you are checking a sulfuric acid solution so wear safety glasses & rubber gloves, have an old rag to catch any drips, and rinse after use by drawing clean water in and out several times.

I'm impressed how repeatable this unit is so far. I have purchased two units from a different company and this unit works so much better. The others became inaccurate after a couple of years even though I properly washed them after each use. I will update review if I have problems over time.
