Causes: Children & Youth, Youth Development Programs

Mission: Education for Sharing’s (E4S) mission is to form better citizens from childhood through the power of play. We turn our students into agents of change with broader perspectives on current social issues who are equipped with the sharpened skills and values that allow them to become leaders capable of offering innovative solutions and having lasting positive impacts on their communities.

Results: Since beginning operations in DC in 2013, we have worked with 8,257 beneficiaries and 101 teachers in 25 education spaces. A large majority of these beneficiaries are low-income DC Public school students, many of whom come from immigrant families. We have worked with a majority Title I schools and programs.

Target demographics: all children, regardless of income level or ability, so that they can become strong, healthy citizens and agents of change in their own communities

Geographic areas served: Washington, D. C.

Programs: Sports, Science, Initiatives and Art for Sharing. Our programs focus on our core civic values (empathy, gender equality, tolerance, teamwork, respect, fair play, responsibility) and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. E4S programs break down complex global issues in an age-appropriate manner and empower students as community changemakers. All of our programs utilize our unique methodology, using play as a key element that leads kids to reflect, propose and act. Students, led by their teachers, play a game or do an experiment connected to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. While doing so, the group reflects on what they learned, how it connects to the global challenge and questions they still have. The sessions close with a discussion of actions each student can take in their own communities to create positive change. Throughout the program, E4S and the partner school host a family night, ambassador session and bring in inspirational community figures to talk to the students. Our programs are concerned with the social-emotional development of young people. We want students to not only be aware of global challenges but to also be kind, strong citizens.
