Programs: --Ride With Emilio, our flagship transportation program, operates six vans in San Diego, Orange, Riverside, Los Angeles and Imperial counties, and travels more than 105,000 miles each year, ensuring that more than 220 patients attend more than 2,000 treatment appointments (3,700 trips!). --Healthy Nutrition-Emilio’s Snack Bags: Emilio’s Snack Bags ensure that children receiving chemotherapy get a nutrition boost each time they attend, with a balance of protein, fruit and carbohydrates in each Snack Bag. In 2017, ENF provided 1,575 hospital-approved snack bags to patients at Rady Children’s Hospital. In 2109 ENF began providing 20 snack bags per week to patients at CHOC. --Emilio’s Loving Tabs Shirts®: Specially designed t-shirts enable providers to access the permanent catheter port in a young patient’s chest to deliver chemotherapy and other medications without the child having to lift or remove the shirt, relieving stress and fear. In 2017,668 shirts were distributed throughout the U. S. --End of Life Child and Family Care: Provides a range of support for family members during a child’s last weeks of life, including meal cards, financial aid, end-of-life ceremonies and education, fulfillment of selected dying wishes, and stipends to help with the cost of burial. ENF served 27 patients with End of Life Care in 2017.--ENF Resource Center: A staffed computer- and Internet-equipped room in Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego enables parents to stay engaged with their businesses, and to navigate other community support, such as financial aid, legal support, employment, education and housing. In 2017, family members accessed needed community services 225 times. --Creating For Hope: Guided knitting and sewing circles support family members of children battling cancer, serving as a time to share and support one another during the child’s treatment. In 2017, family members participated in guided respite care 854 times.
