Since ESBIT is both immediate heat source and fire starter, I add dried roots, stems burnable debris that I find while walking (all terrain) to provide the BTUs desired. Rubbing soap on the bottom of the pot prior to use translates to easy cleanup. If using the round Coghlan style fuel, they can be stored in electrolyte tab (NUUN style) containers to isolate odor. Heat conservation is the name of the game for this fuel. Body heat leverages the food preparation process, keep your water or pre-soaked food next to your body so that it enters the cooking pot already at 60-97.5F degrees always use a LID. To prevent convective heat loss due to wind passing through the stove while cooking, stack rocks around it or set up in a depression in ADDITION to using a piece of carbon felt or aluminum foil for a shield. Lighting in high wind can be eased by using a plasma lighter, cotton/vaseline balls, or jute twine char cloth along w/ aforementioned double breaks. These product have allowed me to start a fire in the most extreme weathers and even in the rain. They produce enough heat and last long enough to start a fire. I have even used it to start my grill. I definitely would be buying some more of these. I have even given some to my family members and they love them too.

I didn't realize Esbit made different sizes?? I was expecting the ones sealed in a foil/plastic packet. These are half that size and not sealed in anything. Maybe not good for backpackers who need waterproof packaging but they work for me. One for a mocha pot Espresso, one for the milk.
