the quality of the leather grip handle is not as good as it was 20 yrs ago when I bought the previous version, the leather handle on the new hammer is thinner in feel and the covering over the leather grip appears not as durable as the prior Estwing hammer that I had, loved and lost ( stolen) ... nonthelss , happy to have a new Estwing

I'm not a framer or carpenter, but I want a quality hammer around when I need it. You can spend a LOT more on a brand that starts with P and ends with icard but there's no point.Estwing builds quality hammers that are durable, well balanced, and affordable. My carpenter/framer friends sweat by them, and their 16/20oz claw hammers are perfect for around the house use.

Estwing makes a great hammer, but it's inexplicably covered with stickers that don't peel off. I tried, leaving white paper sticker residue. I guess I could clean it up with acetone or something, but why?

A leather handled Estwing is not a hammer. It is a fine crafted percision instrument

I loaned by previous Estwing to a friend and did not get it back - it was 25 years old! These are great hammers. I prefer the grip on this style hammer over the rubber grip as they tend to be easier on the hands if your use is intermittent, this style does not cause blisters. The grip is better in hot weather as well. Highest marks!

My Dad bought one of these in the 1950's. I still have it, and it's my Go-To hammer. I bought this one for my Son. This is not just a tool purchase, it's something you pass down to your kids.

great hammer, steel handle protective against overstrikes and therefore good for general demolition, i scrape the varnish from the handle and coat with neatsfoot for a perfect grip... really can't go wrong with this item.
