As a novice to intermediate woodworker and DIYer, I came across a couple of recommendations for FastCap tape measures. Needless to say, this is now my go-to tape. Pros: It's inexpensive and high-quality. It was half the price of the "team red" tape I had prior. It is very easy to read, has markings down to 16ths, and this particular model (lefty/righty) makes it easy to read those marks on both sides of the tape. Accuracy is fantastic and the green color is very easy to see/find. Seems to be very durable and isn't overly heavy and could fit comfortably in a pocket if needed. This may sound simplistic, but this is so easy to get back on my belt and stays very secure. Lastly, and probably my favorite feature, is the lack of slop on the hook. The "team red" tape had about 1/8" to 3/16" play when hooked, but the FastCap has little to none. Love that! Cons: None. Love it! Would highly recommend, and I will continue to purchase FastCap in the future and recommend to family and friends. Already got my kids one each and they love them!

I've had this for a while but the lock quit working rather quickly. I haven't had the tape kink or break though, so it holds strong every time I need to measure something long or tall. It's a little bulky for being only 16ft but I really don't need anything much longer and shorter wouldn't work out for my job, so I think this one is a good size. It fits in my pocket easily. Green is my favorite color so I like that this is green and black. I don't really use the writing part much but its cool to have the option. I love the very specific measurements listed on the tape. It really helps me get quick accurate measurements while working. The grip on the outside also really helps when working in tricky spots. Overall I think its a great value, I just wish the lock didn't stop working so quickly, that's rather inconvenient.

This is a perfect product for people that are learning to read a tape.

Works great for Teaching high school students how to read a tape measure.

This is exactly what I was looking for to replace the tape that I keep within reach of my miter saw. Now, I can measure from either end, without having to read it upside down. And the nice bold print is great for failing old eyes like mine. The pencil sharpener and scratch pad are features that I have yet to use, but I'm sure I will... if I ever think about it. I don't know how long it will last, but the price is low enough that even if I have to buy a new one every year or two, I still couldn't really complain.

Update on 3/18/2025; I went ahead and emailed the company and they actually replied. It seems they are sending me a new tape. Pretty stinking cool!! Although I will leave my review, I wanted to update with the new information and expand this review by adding Excellent Customer Service!!! Bumped them up a star. Might buy a couple more as gifts for the girls. I actually don’t have too much of a complaint but durability might not be a good claim for these. Bought 3 in October, grew tired of all my tapes being different. Seemed like a decent product and purchase price was good. I think they were on sale. Today while framing up my wife’s new greenhouse, I left this tape on top of my 6’ ladder and it fell off when ladder was moved. It landed in pea gravel from 6’ and this was the result. The little clip popped off and disappeared(not my concern). But dang.look at this thing Also, the stand out on these are truly about 6’ max. I have two more and will use them until they break, but might not get anymore. The handy-woman in your life will probably like them, but I’m going to stick with my old Stanley or my new Milwaukee for framing or tough work. I have a 16’ Stanley lever lock I use in the shop all the timeit might be the best little tape I’ve ever had.

Wish I’d found out about these things earlier in life. Best I’ve ever owned!! Ordering more for my shop

this is by far my favorite measuring tape. I’ve already purchased a second one. The accuracy is great. It is highly durable and features are excellent. I particularly like that. The measurements are on both sides and you can write measurements and notes on the side of this model. I’d recommend this product.

A fantastic measuring tape. I even bought a second one as a just-in-case.

I received a used, wrong tape in open pack

This tape measure is awesome! The button to lock underneath is very handy and it's super easy to ready from either side. The built in pencil sharpener is nice along with the small writing pad to write your measurements on. Must have!

I love this tapeexcept for a few small gripes. I am a carpenter and I found out about this tape from a woodworking channel - 731 Woodworks - it’s great for shop use and light duty but I worry about its durability on the job- but it’s so cheap that I’m not worried if I need to buy some more down the road. When you bring the tape back after a long distance (like 9 ft) it feels like the spool inside loosens up and the tape doesn’t retract all the way. This means I have to pull it back out and slowly put it back in - but this doesn’t happen all the time just when you deactivate the lock and let it fly back fast. I wish the feet markings were easier to read also. Like when you’re up at 143 inches sometimes I struggle to find the closest ft marking to yell to the cut guy. The reason it’s harder to read is bc the tape has smaller font due to having numbers on both sides. These two gripes I have don’t make me not go for it every morningI LOVE having a blank spot to write measurements - just wipe with a wet finger to erase and boom good to go. The clip is the BEST I’ve ever used on any tape. It makes it so easy to attach to belts/pants bc it easily spreads to attach or remove from wherever you keep it. Sometimes I don’t want to wear a full belt and I’m just wearing my pantsit’s great for that. I used a mechanical pencil or a carpenters pencil so I haven’t used the pencil sharpener function yet.

I have this 16’ tape, and the 25’ one also. They are great and easy to read.

Absolutely love this tape! I have been doing fine carpentry/cabinetry for over 20 years. The lines on other tapes are starting to blur with age. I can clearly read this tape from all angles. It is dead on accurate. Very light weight. The stop on the bottom and side pencil sharpener are very nice. I just wish the actual tape was a little wider. I ruin other name brand tape measures within 2 months from constant use. These last me about 4 months. Will continue to buy. Fast Cap makes quality products, i know from years of use in the field and shop.

16h number digits are great for poor number memory like me. Lasts about a year before it delaminates overall I recommend

Worked good for about 2 weeks of constant use then the tip of the tape Measure ripped off as it unlocked it , and I had to throw it away, the left handed part works great but not very sturdy

I guess I've had a bit of an obsession with tape measures lately. Over Christmas I appeared to have acquired like 7 of them. I saw this one on a Youtube video and was like "Yep have to have it" and the price is great. Very easy to read, has features the big names do not have. Love the little writing area on the side. I didn't think I would use that and ended up using it the very first time I measured something with it. Highly recommend.
