Mission: Fighting For Fido Inc is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located in NW Arkansas for the purpose of rescue, rehabilitation & placement of unwanted canines. We are also an animal advocacy group - educating pet owners in the responsibilities of proper nutrition, spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchipping for identification, socialization, obedience/ behavioral training and more. The pets we take into "Fido" come from a variety of backgrounds. Sometimes they come from storm-stricken areas like south Texas where many owners are surrendering pets (following Hurricane Harvey) because they have had to uproot their lives and have found pet-friendly housing hard to obtain. Others come from shelters who are consistently over-capacity with abandoned/ unclaimed strays. By accepting these dogs into our care, many lives have been saved from unnecessary euthanasia. We help pets from all over the states of Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. We take in healthy pets, as well as blind, deaf, paralyzed, those needing dental extractions, surgery, and dogs with a variety of illnesses. We have given sanctuary to pets freed from puppy mills and hoarding situations, fostering adult dogs who have never felt anything but wire between their toes and the horror of being bred over and over like livestock and sold to the next breeder to start up his operation. Many go without any veterinary treatment and suffer eye disease, broken limbs, severe skin infections, heartworms, cancer, and nails grown around into the pads of their feet. We've watched these dogs wander onto soft grass for the first time, come to accept the touch of a kind hand without cowering, and eventually experience the joy of a family. Many pets come to us locally due to life changes that can't be helped. Often times it's because an owner has passed on or their health is failing. We receive dogs from those who have moved into permanent assisted living where they have strict rules about pets on the premises. Loss of jobs cause pets to be surrendered as future finances are uncertain. We have also had deployed military individuals and ex-pats approach us for help finding new homes for pets they can't take overseas.

Results: Our organization researches adoption and foster applicants thoroughly, interviews all members of the family and the dogs in each home. We maintain the premise that particular safety requirements must be met for approval to adopt and a home inspection must be permitted. If life changes happen to the adopting family and a pet we have placed is no longer wanted or his environment becomes unsafe, our contract states that the pet comes back to us for future placement. (We are pleased to report that only 1-2% of adoptions have returned pets for further placement. ) By doing what we do, these dogs who have already suffered so much don't have to worry about being abandoned ever again. We see so much devastation, and it's often hard to hold back the tears, but for us there's little in life that's better than the joy of placing a rehabilitated pet in a loving forever home. Our biggest needs are money to pay for veterinary costs and microchips, food, leashes/collars, beds, toys, and laundry/cleaning supplies. We also are always looking for volunteers to foster pets, attend adoption events, and bathe/walk dogs. Whatever your gift is, at Fighting For Fido, you are helping to secure a future of love for companion animals who otherwise don't have hope or an advocate.
