I am really looking forward to my upcoming move to the Asheville area and can't wait to try out some of the trails described in this book. It is awesome! The author includes detailed trail descriptions, directions and nearby attractions. Also a trail map and Elevation Profile for each one.

I have 2 dogs and (both they and I) enjoy it when I bring them with me on my hikes. Most of the trails in this collection aren't dog-friendly. Not the authors fault, but I feel like a back index list for what's friendly to bikes/dogs/etc would have been helpful in selecting trails

Went to Dupont State Park in North Carolina using this book most of the directions were wrong. The author should investigate a bit more on correct directions.

I'm an expierenced hiker have been completely frustrated by the poor sometimes just plain wrong trail descriptions in this book. I really wanted to like it but after finding too many mistakes the hard way, I'm tossing it.

We really like the 5 star system of assessing components of the hike (scenery, difficulty, trail condition, solitude...). Also like the altitude change diagrams and the trail maps are well done as well.

The directions and maps are easy to follow, even for someone with a pathologically bad sense of direction (me). This is not the most comprehensive book out there, but it is the most user-friendly and readable one I've found. There's a good diversity of trails here in location and difficulty. The book tells you how crowded each trail is likely to be and describes the trail, the flora/fauna, other trails that connect, etc. in a few pages per trail.
