Dad had a super complex tv system before with amplifier, tv, and satellite controls. With the progression of his Alzheimer's there came a day when he could no longer use complicated controls. After a lot of trial and error I found this device. It works perfectly. It can be programmed for the tv plus the satellite box. Just follow the instructions that come with the remote to code in your system. also someone else mentioned a way to disable the function to turn off the box versus the tv. I did that and it worked like a charm. I would recommend that step. I did have to remove the amplifier/ surround sound from the mix, but the TV sound was sufficient for his needs. The simple buttons on the controller make it much easier for him to at least turn the TV on/ off and control volume. The satellite box stays on full time (see above comment about disabling the on/off for the box). The TV is set to his favorite channel and no longer can he use the guide function but that is ok. The guide would just confuse him anyway. Occasionally he surfs channels, somewhat cumbersome but still much better than before. This was a godsend. Prior to using this I'd talk to him daily about how his tv was not working, for about 2-3 weeks. He'd accidentally press buttons on his previous controllers. This controller makes things much easier for him.
