Mission: Established in 1981, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan serves as a common solicitor, storehouse and distributor of food in 22 Eastern Michigan counties. By networking with over 700 hunger relief partners, the Food Bank distributes 28 Million pounds of food that reaches over 331,000 food insecure individuals annually. With a focus on nutrition, nearly 50% of all food distributed includes fresh produce, dairy and meat. The Hunger Solution Center's production kitchen serves nearly 900,000 meals annually, through children's feeding programs that surpass the USDA's nutritional guidelines, and nearly 13,000 children receive weekend backpacks of food, during the school year, to ensure no child goes hungry over the weekend. (Less)
